Imaginal Being is a design practice for the artful enablement of the digital, the biological, and the physical.
We love beautiful things, but only as a by-product of a beautiful process. We consider nature as a co-client, enacting deliverables and outcomes as an “interaction” inside of an ecosystem.
Context
We apply immersive research, hands-on experimentation, and high-fidelity design to three platforms we see guiding our evolution from nature-inspired design to nature-empowered design.
-
Bringing to market is great, but we want to take the long view and implement and impact people’s value systems, getting them to listen very carefully to what nature is asking of us right now.
Relationship: Nature & Culture
Potential Outcomes: creative brand strategy, content development, editorial direction, copywriting + voice
-
We research, embody, and design new operating ecosystems —a system of interactions attuning to the deep patterns of nature while engaging in the tension between physical and environmental constraints.
Relationship: Ecology & Technology
Potential Outcomes: product design, experiential design, user experience, production/project management
-
Through experimenting with bacteria-printed textiles, biopolymers, and other matter, we explore the potential for closed-loop systems of (re)use, designing for decay, and the interactions and relationships with matter.
Relationship: Grown & Made
Potential Outcomes: speculative research, exhibitions & installations, biodesign workshops & events, etc.
Problem
Being at the vanguard of shaping change means we always get to work on exciting projects, but we're not always allowed to name-drop. What we can say is this: we collaborate with visionary institutions and initiatives who are ready to think of their function within a broader ecosystem and lead their industry towards synergistic processes.
